St. Cloud is a city in northern Osceola County, Florida. It is on the southern shore of East Lake Tohopekaliga in Central Florida, in the southeast area of Orlando. The city population is over 35,000 and is included as part of the Orlando-Kissimmee metropolitan area. St. Cloud was originally founded as a retirement community for Civil War union veterans and has the nickname “The Friendly Soldier City”. The area still has a large population of current and ex-military. The city’s streets are named for states from which Civil War veterans had served rumor has it. St. Cloud sets itself apart by promoting an image of small-town lifestyle but many modern sub-divisions have sprouted up.
